Update gone wrong on e260
« on: October 23, 2010, 12:04:04 AM »
I have a e260 v? that I put v3.4 rb on. Back when 3.4 was the lastest build I knew what version my sansa was but I have since forgetten.

I had recently had some problems with player mis behaving when connected to my comp, It would become slugish like teh processor was being over worked (slow fading of the screen). Later it lost its database and hangs up at around 1500 songs when rebuilding it.

I decided that maybe I should start fresh and put the more recent 3.6 on my player. So I hooked up my player, ran the rockbox utility and had it autodetect to e200 v1. when I went to Installion -> install rockbox, I got a mismatch error saying it wasnt a v1. I had a rather good feeling it was, so being an idiot I clicked the option to force install it. It installed it, I unmounted, disconnected, player ddint restart so I cycked the power. and still 3.4. So I tried install e200 v2 formware on it. that was probabaly stupid. I'm sure you'll let me know. after install again still version 3.4. I then proceded to follow the manual install instructions, and replaced all the files on the player using the release of 3.6 for e200 v1. still v3.4.

What should I do? And how can I figure out what version I have?

The sure way to tell which player you have is to check the version of the SanDisk firmware.  If it is 01.XX.XX then it's a v1 player.  If the firmware version number looks like 03.XX.XX, then you have a v2 player.

Just found that out. Took some diggin in the manual. Anyway I have v1. I assumed correctly. Moving on, why didnt my update work using the rockbox utility and what steps should I take to "redo" my player

Update after exiting the original software and reboot rb i got this at the splash screen where "v 3.4"

 rXXXXXX-XXXXXX

Also the menu dispayed sluggishly, about 4 seconds before scrolling.

hooked it up to my comp again and I get eh following:

USB keypad mode: multimedia

but it ddi connect and was assigned a drive letter. Its super sluggishthough.

I ran rockbox utility again to install e200 v1 firmware and it installs it on the player this time with no error. Upon unplug, it notices the firmware update and ask to reboot. I did and it displays v3.6

good halfway there

I have it build the databasebut it freezes on about 111 so i figue on of songs i corrupt.

I sync it again and delete all my songs from the player. REboot it and the database is built with 3 songs. Now I'll ad my songs back to the player.

Tentacle Master,

Sounds like checking the filesystem for errors would be beneficial.
Without knowing what OS you're using however, I can't give direction for doing so.

If I go with my gut and assume you're using a Windows OS, right clicking on the drive letter when the player is connected to your PC and then selecting:

Tools - [Error Checking] Check Now

Will do the trick for you.
