First of all I want to say hello and congrats for your webb page. I have an ipod with a 80GB hdd and with a color LCD (I suppose it is an ipod video but Im not sure). It has a problem: after turned on, it becomes blocked and in the LCD appears a red circle with a red cross inside and the message "visit www.apple.com/ipod/support" or something like that.

I want to know if it could be possible to load a rockbox firmware to get it alive again or maybe it is dead forever... Im worried about because I have a lot of information on the hdd but the ipod IS NOT RECOGNIZED BY the PC USB ¿?. Maybe it is possible to build a firmware loader to load it without the USB or without the firewire connection... Or maybe it is a hdd fault and could not initialize because hdd is damaged??? I dont have any idea about how can I revive it. I would appreciate any useful info that could make me recover my files.

From what you described, what appears on the LCD sounds like the error message given by an iPod Classic (6th generation).

Rockbox does not run on, nor do we support, the iPod Classic, so you'll have to go to the website given to you by the error message, or take it to an Apple Store.

Even if it was an iPod Video, Rockbox cannot recover iPods that don't boot; you have to recover them with iTunes first. Rockbox can only be installed on iPods that work.

That's true. But in this case, he also wants to keep all of his data on his iPod without losing it first.

@albejanon: If you want to keep your data on your iPod, see if you can boot it into Emergency Disk Mode (press MENU+PLAY as you turn on your iPod), then just copy your stuff out of it.

Thanks to all of you... Ill try to use the emergency method and try to recover my software... I really appreciate your help... Ill give you feedback about what happened to the Ipod...

PD: Maybe in the future rockbox could handle this kind of Ipods??? I hope so... Thanks again.
