Clip+ will not autodetect on Ubuntu
« on: October 15, 2010, 03:12:59 PM »
My device mounts fine in nautilus.
My device is set to MSC.
In RockboxUtility -- Selected Device: Sandisk Sansa Clip+ (Unstable) at /media/CLIP_PLUS
Autodetect says it couldn't find a mountpoint and to select it manually.

note: at one point my Clip+ label was some weird string that included non ASCII characters and I renamed it CLIP_PLUS using the disk utility.
Ubuntu is Lucid

any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

You might check for a damaged file system.  The garbled volume label seems to indicate this.

It's a good idea to post the System Trace from Rockbox Utility.

Autodetect says it couldn't find a mountpoint and to select it manually.

Since some players don't have characteristics that make it possible to distinguish them reliably from any other removable drive detecting the mount point is not always possible. It is possible once Rockbox has been installed (by checking for Rockbox specific files on the drive). I'm not completely about the clip+, but the Iriver h100 / h300 series is definitely a player where detecting the mountpoint is not possible.

There's no need for a manual only if detecting the mount point doesn't work on your player. If you enter the correct one there is no harm in providing it yourself.

I'm running into this same problem with a Sansa Clip+ on Windows Vista. Rockbox can't autodetect the mountpoint, and I don't know how to find it manually.

Do I need to do a manual install?

No need to install manually, just select/enter the path where your clip+ is mounted. On windows this should be something like "D:/" or "E:/". Then close the config dialog and use the install button.

Okay, I got it figured out. I just had to set the Clip+ to MSC mode.
