LrcPlayer Bug On Sansa E200 v1
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:01:21 PM »
I always thought that the lrcplayer was a useless application because whenever I clicked on it, it said 'incompatible version' . However, I have recently found out that it shows lyrics. I would like to use this feature of rockbox. When I go to hold the button to get to 'open with' on a song, lrcplayer is not on the list. How can I get the lrcplayer working so that I can view the lyrics of songs??
Thankyou!

That message means the version of the plugin you have doesn't match the version of the rockbox main build you've installed.  Usually it means you either have two incomplete installs on top of each other, or tried to copy a plugin from one build to another.  Are you running some really old build of rockbox?  Might be worth deleting the .rockbox folder and updating.

Ah...thanks. I am currently running rockbox 3.6, but I will do what you have said, and delete the .rockbox folder and see if this will work.

- Hmm...it seems the lrcplayer app is not there after I delete the .rockbox folder and put version 3.6 on there. I guess it remained in there from when I had the earlier version of rockbox on there, which is why it gave me the error.

How come the lrcplayer is not included with version 3.6? Is there a download out there for it for my sansa e280 v1?

Thankyou!~

Because 3.6 is older then lrcplayer.  You'll need to update if you want to use it.

Oh, one of the builds that are updated daily? 3.6 is still the newest official build, you make it sound like it is old when it isn't. I guess I can wait for rockbox 3.7...
I don't like the daily builds for one reason, the wps's are coded differently ( from using one character :   |  to using two  ( & )  which doesn't make any sense to me as to why you would code using two characters when you coul;d just code with one |    ) & my wps that I made for 3.6 will not work on daily builds. I guess I will just have to hope that rockbox 3.7 will come out soon =P

I consider it old.

They won't work with 3.7 either.

3.6 is old; it was released four months ago. We change the code 10-50 times per day; four months is a huge span of time.

The current builds are not daily, they are every time the code changes.

The new WPS syntax is.. the new WPS syntax. The current builds are not different for no reason; they are different because they are based on newer code. 3.7 will be a copy of the current code at the time 3.7 is released (more or less) so it will also use the new WPS syntax.

Oh, thankyou for clearing this up.
- I don't see the point in changing the current 3.6 way of coding wps... it is way more efficient than  ( I said two, but that is wrong. I missed the comma ) having 3 characters instead of one . It is less efficient and makes you spend more time coding.
- I would like you to code a wps using the new wps syntax in rockbox using the text editor on a non-touch-screen target to see how much more time it takes to code than using the older 3.6 way. ( the way I currently do things because I do not usually have access to a computer ...) You will see that it takes longer to code than just using one | character.

- This is kind of off-topic and everything is now cleared up, so I guess I should be ignored now =P
I guess I can make an idea for the future of rockbox to support both new and old wps coding syntax's so people can choose between the two if they wish. - It would make my life much easier...
Thanks Again Everyone!

If you don't want new features, do not upgrade rockbox.  You're welcome to use old builds forever.

Alright, well I guess I will have fun being screwed over since I do want new features ( especially dictionary/ lrcplayer...etc...)  :D

'No.'

KK, sorry about all this then. ( and for misunderstanding you. )

Being screwed over, please....

You find writing the old ones quicker as you are used to them.  In terms of pure typing, writing 2 more characters per line has probably wasted you about 15 seconds for a whole wps.  Sorry about that.

There are very good reasons for the change, you may have to type one more character (I assure you your keyboard won't wear out) but it greatly simplifies the internals of Rockbox and allows future improvements/additions.  In return, you have to make a one off change to existing WPS files and a tool was even released to do it for you.  Contrary to what you seem to believe, it wasn't just to annoy you.

I'm really struggling to believe that this is really as big a deal to you as you make out.
