Can't install Rockbox in 5G iPod!
(1/1)
jswetzen:
I'm trying to install rockbox on my 5g iPod, following the instructions on http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallation" but I come to e) it says "Cannot open firmware image file apple_sw_5g_rcsc.bin".
I've tried to write both "ipod_fw -g 5g -o rockboot.bin -i apple_os.bin bootloader-video.bin" and "ipod_fw -g video -o rockboot.bin -i apple_os.bin bootloader-video.bin" but it doersn't work. I downloaded the bootloader-video.bin from the bottom of the page.
Llorean:
Did you take the extra step to extract the video resources from the bootpartition.bin?
Not just:
../tools/ipod_fw -o apple_os.bin -e 0 bootpartition.bin
But also:
../tools/ipod_fw -o apple_sw_5g_rcsc.bin -e 1 bootpartition.bin
crescentfresh:
What's the point of installing it at this point if there's no sound?
Llorean:
Well, there's a couple of reasons, at least:
1) You're a developer, and want to test things on-target.
2) You've modified the bootloader to default to Retail, but you can start rockbox to play the new/extra games.

Thanks a lot, that did the trick!
By the way, I'm not a developer, but I'd like to try out Rockbox. Llorean's second reason.
