Fuze v1 - FAT Corrupted, Not Recognized by PC
« on: October 03, 2010, 03:35:40 PM »
I installed Rockbox on my Sansa Fuze v1, and it worked great for a couple of days. However, one day while the Fuze is connected to the PC, my PC ran out of battery power and went to hibernate.

The Fuze restarted and Rockbox shows a white screen with words: "*PANIC* SD Xfer read err:0x8 Disk0"

When I switch to the OF, the Fuze says that the "FAT is Corrupted. Please connect to PC."

The PC doesn't recognize the Fuze. It displays the "USB Device Not recognized" error. I tried connecting the device while it's on hold and the left button is pressed, but Windows XP still cannot recognize it.

Device Manager displays it as an unknown device. I'm not sure what to do here! Any ideas?

Hi there,

I also had the FAT corrupted message. What I did is:
- download UBCD from http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ and run it
- launch Parted Magic
- open a Terminal command shell
- run "tail -f /var/log/messages" and check where the fuze is recognized when you link it to the computer. In my case, it was /dev/sdb, so I continue with it
- run "fdisk /dev/sdb"
- fdisk told me the partition table did not exists and propose to create one. Say yes.
- Boot into Windows, the fuze should be recognized, you just have to format in FAT 32 the drive of the fuze
- disconnect the fuze
- run it, it should run
- in my case, my 8gb fuze was recognized with only 490Mo, just install the last firmware to update it

It should run correctly. I didn't loose any mp3.

Good Luck.

Edit: add the windows format information that I forgot.

Hello,

I tried your suggestion.

I was able to launch Parted Magic, but when I tried fdisk, the command complained that the device cannot be found.

My Fuze should also be /dev/sdb. I'm attaching a screenshot of the tail -f /var/log/messages

Sadly, I failed to fix my Sansa Fuze.
