Pictureflow and WPS integration?
« on: October 01, 2010, 10:30:36 AM »
Hi.

I scanned the forum and the tracker for a bug or patch, and this is not mentioned.

In reading plugin sources and playing with different themes that attempt to integrate Pictureflow, I started to wonder is there any technical reason that screen_dump couldn't be called within Pictureflow when selecting an album?

Logistically, when a new album cover is selected, couldn't you disable the show_album_name and show_fps texts, screendump, and reference the file in WPS? Implementing a mechanism to access the screendump in memory would be better than writing & reading a file, just due to Flash writes being finite, but does it sound feasible? Am I overlooking something that prevents this?

Thanks for reading.

Why do you want a screen dump from pictureflow exactly? I can't follow what you're trying to accomplish exactly here.

I think s/he's trying to define PictureFlow options inside the theme files (wps, sbs and cfg) which is not possible yet. But I'm not sure this is what s/he means.

Sorry, assumption.

There's multiple themes that try to emulate CoverFlow, but cannot. They have static background images. The theme authors even bother to put such disclaimers in their descriptions, which infers a shortcoming in it's implementation.

What I am suggesting, since there's already a mechanism to do a screendump, to snapshot the screen inside Pictureflow when an album is selected, before it does the zoom-n-rotate animation or jumps back to the WPS depending on your WPS Integration setting, and utilize said snapshot as the current %X backdrop.

The goal being to make Pictureflow behave more like the software it's emulating.

It seems a basic enough concept, which is why I asked if there's something I'm not seeing that would make implementing it a hassle, as I would assume someone else had thought of this already.

I think that would require substantially improved integration of pictureflow into the main rockbox app.  Or i guess adding something more like the WPS screen to pictureflow itself rather then switching back and forth between the pictureflow plugin and the main GUI for WPS.

Adding WPS functionality to PictureFlow would probably be the easiest way to do this "properly", yeah...
