progress 100% but with 600+ files
(1/1)

k... first things first
player = Sansa e260 v1
rockbox = ver 3.6 (very recent, just got it today. released 06/2010
I have FRESHLY uninstalled and newly installed rockbox on my player since I never seem to get the "commit to database" to EVER come up again after changing my SDcards, hence my database showing files that shouldn't be there anymore.
Now, before everyone starts jumping on me, I have searched and searched this forum (and learned a lot) but still cannot understand why there are some things still happening.
1 - Even with NO card, and 0 (zero) files on the local 4gig memory, it still thought there was 600+ files in the database. how can that be???? I would reboot MANY times, give it LOTS of time (to update in background), have auto update ON, and even manually initialized and updated the database through the menu.
2 - I then went in and deleted ALLL the database files (minus the .ignore) of which there was over 10 of them.
3 - I then put ONE song on the local memory to switch it up a bit, and FINALLY it would prompt me to "update the database? yes/no" of which I would, and BAM, there would be the one song. BUT...... if I go into database info, it would show progress of 100% but showing there's 600+ files. WHY????? I don't understand.
I would also like to see the "commiting to database ~/9" on each startup like it used to but I never can seem to get that anymore.
it would be good to know how I could completely clear the cache (and yes, load to RAM is off) and make it look like it is a clean install, having no knowledge of previous "ghost" files. I plan on changing cards often and what's going on is just not going to work.
its a 16 gig card I am using, though I KNOW it does work (since I had it working before,) but could it be causing SOME unpredictable hiccups.??
Could someone please help me. :-[ :'(

Its not possible to have zero files on the internal memory because rockbox alone will include about 400 plus many more for each theme you've installed.

If you count the number of files on your device, is it 600+?

OK.... sorry. Guess I should be REALLY CLEAR. lol
when I meant ZERO files on local, I meant ZERO files in the MUSIC folder on the local memory. lol. like as in, mp3's.
as with the 600+ files for database, I just assumed that the database is strictly what songs I have in it, as in audio files. never did realise that it could mean ALL files associated with rockbox itself. my bad!
NEways, just loaded a bunch of songs again on a 16 gig card, and see if it will take it... will keep ya posted.
NEW EDIT --->
WELL HOLY CRAP! (excuse the profanity)...
THIS IS BRAND NEW! and very VERY bad!!!!!
As I turned on my sansa after inserting the card, wound up getting an error that flashed by REAL QUICK stating something about a .dir cache error or something. Then it just booted to the start page. I then went into the database info and it would be at 1% and the next line showing files being written to my <micoSD> directory with a whole bunch of weird stuff. the files would be going up in numbers too... 200+... 300+... 400+...
I would then just go to the files->microSD and I would find a WHOLE BUNCH of folders of really weird characters, so I turned off my sansa and plugged in my card with a card reader (not through my sansa) and I would see a whole bunch of files with names like :
nYrS╡¬RE.s
╔éò½Θ
▓╬.╜∞║
à ôwπñ┴j.â–“iâ¿
Some showing as hidden folders, all unopenable, readable, recognizable, and MOST IMPORTANT YET... undeletable!!!!! I now have to format the card!
I am testing to see if it is the card itself and now just testing 22 tracks on a 4g card and see if THAT seems to work....
EVEN NEWER EDIT ->
ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLRighty.....THEN!
whipped those 22 files onto the 4g, popped that bad boy into my sansa... got the happy joy "commiting database" thingie...
Then the start page...
then nothing! went to files, there was no microSD1 at ALL!!!
rebooted. same commiting database 9/9
start page, went to files and AGAIN, there was no microSD1
.... weird.
So,... for the HAHA of it, I turned off my sansa, took out the 4g, popped back in the 16g (screwed up) card, and turned it back on...
*cue spooky x-files music ... NOW*
Commiting database 9/9,
start page,
files -> microSC1
and ALL THE FILES ARE THERE, with none of the screwed up ones!!! :o all playable, all whole. WTF???!!! went into database info and it now just says 1% progress.
I guess I will just have to settle with choosing the lesser of the two evils... >:(
Any idea why this is happening? do I just have a f%#ed up player and time to find a new one? this thing HAS gone through the wringer more than a few times. been in my tank bag of my many mexico-canada motorcycle trips. cracked display, turns off if I press it in the wrong spot. that sort of thing. ;)
