rockbox on fuze v2 not even nearby stable until now
« on: September 26, 2010, 11:52:55 AM »
hi everbody,

i installed rockbox on my fuze v2 yesterday with rockboy-utility because i read some entries
in this forum its quite stable and the only bugs are just some little things.
this is not true. today i wanted to start my player and it got stuck showing
the bootscreen. nothing happened, i had to push the on/off-switch 30 seconds,
tried to start it again but the same error everytime. so i can not recommend to install
rockbox on sansa fuze v2 until its officially stable. dont listen to some
guys saying its stable when its obviously not.

I think you are the minority here......almost everyone I've seen using rockbox on their V2 is enjoying it. You may have stumbled upon a daily build with a bug, but that does not make them all unstable. ;)

i used the official release not some untested builds. i´ll give it at try again by reinstalling and lots of testing but this big problem after just one day was very disappointing.

Theres no official release, just SVN builds, some of which are more stable then others.

That said, your problem sounds a lot like file system corruption, so you may want to check your disk for errors before using it again.

I'll be the next to say, that he may not be the only one having problems - for awhile I thought maybe I'd bricked my Fuze v2, but I was able to get it running again. I'm still running into some minor problems with playback having a memory crash, and some skins also have the same problem.

I've been using rockbox on my v2 Fuze for a while as well.  Sometimes when upgrading it I hit a version that's terribly unstable and need to revert to a version a few points older.  28031 is what's currently installed and it's working fine for me.

It's still listed in Unstable Ports on the Rockbox front page. Therefore it is still officially considered unstable.

I'm confused.

Are we talking about unstable, or unreliable?

"stable" in software development, especially open development like this, usually means that it stops changing, so it can be used as a known point for branching off new builds with untested features.

Unreliable means it has issues which may produce undesired operation.

It is perfectly possible for a build to be stable AND unreliable, or vice versa.

I want to put this on my Fuze V2, but I'm not sure which, if any, builds are considered reliable, yet..

We don't ever stop changing rockbox builds and never will as long as the project is alive.
