Toshiba Gigabeat S: Rockbox only works once, then player wants FW restore
« on: September 24, 2010, 10:58:55 PM »
I installed Rockbox on my Gigabeat S60  according to the instructions. First everything seems OK, after installation Rockbox loads and works fine. However, if I turn the player off then on again, it tells me that the firmware must be restored and I can only continue if I restore the Toshiba firmware.
Then I can use beastpatcher and reinstall Rockbox but it only works again until I turn the unit off.

How can I fix this, and what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the help.

<edit>
In the meantime, I found another message where the same problem is mentioned, and the solution there was to use the dual bootloader instead of the single bootloader. I will try that and report back if this fixes the issue.

<edit 2>
Yep, dual boot appears to have solved the problem.

Yep, dual boot appears to have solved the problem.

This is a known issue and there is a ticket in the tracker about this: FS#9778. Unfortunately nobody has figured what's the problem here, so this is an unfixed issue and the only solution is to use the dualboot bootloader.
