Sansa Clip+ microSDHC issue !
« on: September 24, 2010, 02:20:12 PM »
Hi guys!
I've finally bought this wonderful player, just received it today. But I have a question.
I ordered a 2-gig model with an 8-gig microSDHC card. The problem is that when I insert the card into the player (running original firmware), it just hangs and does not respond to any button push... until I remove the card. Then I tried with rockbox : the card is recognized OK and files can be loaded. But when the player is running rockbox, the computer won't recognize it as a mass storage device, so neither internal nor external memory can be accessed.

So what's the problem with the OF ?
And what's wrong with rockbox ?
Please, help! I only have until tomorrow to send it back!

Reformatting it might help - I've had external drives that played funny, but once formatted properly have been absolutely fine. But this does sound like dodgy hardware.

Could be the Clip+, could be the card - so the only way to narrow it down is to try the Clip+ with another card or the card with another reader.

Rockbox doesn't have a USB driver yet for the Clip+, but by the sound of things it's fairly close.

Edit - I've heard this sometimes helps, but have never used it myself. http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/

Are you inserting the card with the player turned on or off?

I tried both ways, neither of them works.
The card seems to work fine on another player.

EDIT:
@Confuseling: I formatted the card using the utility from your link. The card still works fine in another player, but things have gone even worse for my sansa: I inserted the card into the device, it began to refresh the database and got stuck at about 10%. After waiting a while, I thought the player was taking to much time to refresh (given that the card was empty), and I forced the player to turn off by pressing the on/off button for something like 15 seconds.
Now, when I turn it back on, it tries to refresh the database and gets stuck at 10% so I have to reset it by holding the power button. Going to contact the seller and return the device, unless somebody has a solution...
