Deleting iPod software?

I have a video iPod that I only use Rockbox with.  I don't have any iTunes music.  Is it alright to erase the apple software?  Will it affect the rockbox software at all?  Also, if it is alright to get rid of the apple stuff, how should I do it?  Just erase the files or do I need to use a program to do it?

You can just erase the Apple stuff off the disk, but it won't really accomplish much.
