Slow USB transfer on 5.5th gen ipod without original firmware

(1/1)

Myrmornis:
Ever since I removed the original firmware, transfer speeds (using "cp") to my rockbox device (5.5th gen ipod) have been very slow. Is there anything I can do to get faster transfer?

Nautilus (Ubuntu graphical file manager) is reporting 60 KB / sec.

rockbox build: r28001-100905
ipod video 80Gb (5.5th gen)
Ubuntu 10.10

saratoga:
Try a different PC.

dreamlayers:
You could also try a different USB port on the same PC.  In particular, if you've been using a port on the front of the case, definitely try a port on the back.

Gliderguy:
I get about 4MB/s through rockbox firmware and more like 11 MB/s if I boot to the original firmware.  I tried two separate USB ports on the same computer and got about the same results.  I don't know if that is typical or not.

torne:
It varies on different models. We should be faster than we used to be, in general, but the results you give are, I believe, fairly typical.

The original poster here was experiencing speeds a hundred times slower than that, which indicates they had a problem :)
