itunes and untagged
(1/1)
honsbeek:
Hello there ,
I was just trying out this great software on my Ipod Video 30g and noticed some things I didn't like.
1st , when in rockbox and I connect to my computer and go into itunes , itunes doesn't recognize the ipod. Windows however
does read it. I guess the whole reason for running rockbox on a ipod is to not use itunes , how can I manage my music now in a better
way ?
2nd , when in normal ipod windows OS , I see all my mp3 files names , but in rockbox , I get quite a few "UNTAGGED" why is this and
how to I correct for it ?
Thank you for now
Ralph

You can use Itunes to manage your music. I'm not sure if it's necessary to boot into the Ipod firmware for Itunes to recognize it as Ipod. However, since Rockbox doesn't use the Itunes Database the Apple firmware requires there isn't much point in using Itunes (which also scrambles all your filenames).

There is no such thing as "ipod windows OS". If you're talking about the Apple firmware: the Apple firmware uses the Itunes Database that is automatically created by Itunes. It does not put any metadata into the files itself (and the metadata has nothing to do with filenames.) If you want to use the metadata (like ID3 tags) you need to add it to the files. Use any program you like that can actually write correct metadata to the files.
Rockbox either uses the metadata present in the files (if you use the Database) or the actual filenames (which, in case of files transferred with Itunes, doesn't resemble the track title or artist in any name, those are rather random letters and numbers). I consider using proper filenames and using drag and drop to manage my files the simplest and most reliable way (plus, I don't need any additional tools except a file manager).
Since this topic has nothing to do with Rockbox Utility I've moved it.
