Timer recording
« on: October 26, 2010, 12:40:45 PM »
Hi

I would like to program my Iaudio X5 for switching ON itself at a certain time in the night and start recording by itself...

Is this possible ?

Thanks

Although I don't think that this is possible, I might be wrong since the only Rockbox'ed device I own doesn't have recording capabilities.
If I am correct, that capability could be added easily I think, if your device was able to startup at a certain time (I don't know if it does or not). If it isn't able to turn itself on (and somebody else on the forums with the same player can tell you this), then it's impossible to add this feature, unless you keep the player turned on the whole night.

As I am unsure about my answer, please wait for someone else to reply so you can be sure.

(PS: just curious... what do you want to check in the middle of the night? :D)

It doesn't appear that the RTC in the Iaudio X5 can be used to wake up, currently.  (At least I didn't find any mention in the manual.)  It looks like there's still an (old) open task on the tracker for enabling RTC alarm on devices that use the pcf50605.

FS#7814 - Enable H300, X5 and M5 RTC Alarm

Probably it won't apply cleanly to current code, but if someone's interested it's possible it could be cleaned up and committed.

Another hurdle that this faces is that while the Recording screen can be selected as a start screen, recording does not start automatically.  Probably you could configure triggered recording if you can solve the wake-up problem.

The patch lacked one big thing for the Iaudios (and it may be the reason why it isn't committed yet) and this is a change to the current bootloader so that it also "knows" it's been woken by the alarm. At the moment the bootloader checks if a button is held (to prevent accidental switching on) and then resumes booting, obviously this won't happen when the player is turned on via alarm which is working and currently the player will just switch off again.

So, in theory it is possible like Chronon said and with the other hurdle he mentioned but it still needs more work to get it going (and the above mentioned patch is not complete).
