Doubled subdirectorires
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:48:04 PM »
For some reason, I have ended up with doubled subdirectories on my Sansa e 260.

It's Music\artist\album\artist\album\songs

to further complicate things, I can't seem to do a thing with it.  Files are read-only as are subdirectories.  I can't even format the thing or unmount it because it's "In Use".

Yet, for all that it looks normal as far as playing things.  I just don't see how I will ever be able to delete anything from the Sansa.

What's going on here?

Check the file system for errors.

I assume you're talking a Linux thing (which I am also new to) not something built into Rockbox.  I'll have to find out how to do that for future reference.

I already solved it by brute force.  I couldn't do a thing with it on the Linux box, so I hooked it up to my Windows computer, uninstalled Rockbox, formatted the thing, and reinstalled Rockbox.  I did a small test,  putting music from one CD on it and things seem okay again.

Any operating system should have tools for checking and repairing supported file systems.  In Windows you can use chkdsk.  In Linux, fsck.vfat would be the tool you want.  Formatting clears the file system, so will also eliminate errors in the file system, but is a bit excessive in most cases.
