Oh cool, SSS. Is it v1 or v2? O.O

Man, I wish that Crysis thing was real. I would sh** my pants to be able to play a game like that on a DAP with a small screen. xD

Crysis is demanding on PCs.  Embedded devices would sh** their pants trying to run it.  The good news is, nvidia is now making embedded chips with basic hardware acceleration.  The bad news is, that acceleration will be used to run proprietary software first and foremost.

V1 and V2 fuzes are similar, I think it's mostly the 8GB models that are V2 (there should be some non-8GB v2s).  V2s are supposed to have better battery life with rockbox, while V1s have the USB transfer kinks worked out (see here: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaAMS ).  The cpus are a little different (ARM922T for v1 vs ARM926EJS for v2).
I would opt for a V2 for the battery life but honestly I don't think it matters much.  They come in the same plastic package and for a good reason, they are pretty much the same thing.  Recent rockbox developments on this platform have made the two players almost level with each other in terms of compatibility.

Well from what I've heard the v2 Fuze has embedded memory, that can't be messed with... so I asked about that... could you give me a price quote or whether we could do a swap and I could offer some cash with it?

Don't count your chickens, I haven't finished the mod yet (not until I get the setting right).  I should finish it sooner or later and then I will give you a price quote but to give you a basic idea it would cost about $40 for a 2 GB, perhaps 4 GB v1 fuze (depends on what I have on hand).  I don't plan to make any money doing this, certainly the profits would be marginal at best.  The money would go back into the component and player costs.  It would just be nice to say "I did it and now you can get a 32 Meg fuze."

Well I think total they both reach 8 MB... but thanks anyway. I'll be in the corner praying to get an upgraded Fuze - but if not I'll probably look into something else.... maybe I can start looking at the Connect...

Both the v1 and v2 fuzes have a very small amount of embedded memory on the CPU known as IRAM.  I do not know if the v2 has slightly more or not, but we are talking <500kB here and that's basically peanuts compared to 32MB.

The V2 has 1MB of eDRAM, and 8MB of regular DRAM in the package.  The V1 is probably the last Sandisk player to use external DRAM chips.

Thank you I did not know that  ;D.  So they followed the apple trend and started having the ram built into the CPU package?  Saves a lot of board space but not very modder-friendly.  Looks like my v2 fuze will not be taken apart now.  I've not opened up a version 2 yet (you just saved me from bothering) but you mods might want to update this page to note that the second version of the fuze has only embedded memory: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaFuze#Fuze_v2

;)  Don't want to register on the wiki just for that.  Perhaps when I have some more info to post I'll add that bit in.

this page to note that the second version of the fuze has only embedded memory: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaFuze#Fuze_v2

That page is where I verified that theres only embedded memory.  Note that theres no DRAM chip listed for the V2 and no DRAM in the picture.

I fixed the links.  The images were still listed as attachments at the bottom of the page but I have fixed the links in the body of the article.  I didn't mention anything about absent DRAM chips.

Why all these problems with doom? It runs fine on my v2. If doom is disabled I won't be installing 3.7.

It's known and proven that Rockdoom does has some coding issues. Sooner or later, someone will probably come along and start working on such problems, but for the time being - 8MB DAP's can just barely handle any version of Doom.

You just have to disable the directory cache, and other such memory using objects while you wish to play Doom.

It's also known now, that RockDoom is still running the base of PrBoom 1.2.6, when now they actually use 1.5.0 where features like "allys" are now available, little sprited dogs - which looks sort of like fun. :3
