I have the same problem (slightly diff. addresses but same error) on my V1.  Happens with RB 3.6, and two newer daily builds I tried.

Ironically, both of the V2 Fuzes I've Rockboxed will run Doom OK.

Problem confirmed also on my Fuzev1.
Before going to the white screen, there's a
Code: [Select]
Z_Malloc: failure to allocate.
Then
Code: [Select]
Data abort at 307B9420
FSR 0x8
(domain 0, fault 8)
address 0xD80054DD
I'm currently running the r27942M-100829 with antialiased fonts patch, wikiviewer patch and a small patch to brickmania.

If you do this, doom should run fine.

Else it will break randomly, 8MB is not enough RAM to run it reliably it seems

:( At least in 3.5.something it worked for the first level; well, no problem, after all I didn't bought a DAP to play Doom on it. :D

Nice work, it's not even photoshopped so it must be true ;)

Also I see that you avoided all the soldering problems :D

Well, believe it or not, I don't think I'm going to go to those lengths so that I can run a demo (how I see "Doom on Fuze") that already runs on several other players.

I am curious though why it DOES run on the Fuze V2 but NOT on the V1 -- coulda swore I read somewhere that the V2 has less RAM than the V1.

I liked doom on the fuze because of the wheel.  I felt that the screen looked out of proportion but the wheel was just right.
Doom runs on both the Fuzev2 and Fuzev1, they both have only 8MB of ram installed.  With 8MB of ram, the device is just barely getting air.  I found that the original doom (1) wad would crash least frequently so long as the eabi toolchain is used to compile rockbox.

Congrats on the running Crysis. xD Man, I wish my Fuze could do that... >.>

So is that soldering-avoid problem really possible to do? I have a feeling all of that photo was shopped, in fact I know Crysis was - but could the ram be put outside somewhere? I don't feel comfortable soldering and such... but my Fuze v2 has recently run into Data Aborts on and Doom package except Doom Ultimate and Doom 2 (although I haven't tried original Doom, or Shareware) - but I have the Plutonia and TNT expansions as well and they all crash eventually. I think something was changed in the files, because about a week or two ago I could play it for hours on end and only have to worry about the battery dying....

Seriously: the photo was Photoshopped (well, GIMPshopped :D ) just for what concern the crysis screenshot (taken from Google Images). For the rest it's all real... yes, it's a real bar of 1 GB DDR400 tied together with the Fuze with a random piece of wire I found on my desk. :D There's no electrical connection, and it can't work, it was just a joke. To add some RAM you have to replace the soldered module with a compatible bigger one (and it's not even sure it works, see what's going on in the other thread).

All I want to look into is expanding my Fuze v2's memory and knowing 100% sure that I will not end it's life. >.>

It has 8 MB of memory? They want to talk about disabling Doom - for those.... at the most just change the status to unsupported. But I'm still going to go with the fact that my problems with Doom are hardware or software based. I figure something went bad with my RAM or Doom was recently modified.

Nothing went bad with your RAM, it's Doom that has been modified. As explained on the top, on my Fuzev1 before some RB revision I could run Doom without problems for all the first level, now it doesn't even start the game (with a Z_Malloc error => easily a symptom that there's not enough RAM). The problem has been always present, it's just more evident now.

I figure it was tthe software... is it time for a rollback? I could play for an hour or two previously..

I could only guess that it was photoshopped unless you're damn good enough to port DirectX to an MP3 Player.... O.O

If I come up with the settings for the fuze to recognize my new ram chips, I will have a few extra fuzes with 32MB of ram and you'll have the choice of buying a pre-upgraded fuze or fuze board from me.  If I had more time I could probably get this done a little faster.
