..My 1G can charge with 1394,but when connect to the compter,it will show as a problem hardware under windows(ERROR 10,Device can not working, but windows can recognized it as a apple IEEE 1394 DEVICE,with a yellow warning icon on it),and under mac,it can [hardly] recognized by itunes, and the screen always show "DO not disconnect",i have tried two cable, they work fine with my iPod 2G,i also changed the hard drive of them,2G can work with 1G's HD,but with 2G's HD 1G still can't connect to itunes.
Is that ture the 1394 port is deas?
as i'm interested in the old ipods,so,i want to solve this problem,Does anybody know what cause this problem,if necessary i can replace the 1394 chip by ipod 3G's,can this work?

See IpodStatus wiki page
--- Quote ---Currently Rockbox doesn't have any specific support for firewire connections, but the hardware charges via firewire automatically.

i mean 1394 doesn't work with apple os,as ipod 1g's scroll wheel does not supported by rb,i don't want to run rb on 1g
saratoga:
If it doesn't work in the AppleOS its probably burned out.

My one experience of a damaged 1394 port on a 2G iPod was caused by a bad wired car charger : http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/UseOldiPodsWithBadFirewirePort
