Rockbox on 240 GB Ipod 5.5 ??
jakobmagnusson:
Hi,
I find various information about putting the Rockbox on a Ipod 5.5 modified with 240 GB (Toshiba MK2431GAH) hard disk. But, I'm not competent to do compiling etc myself..
Is there a "ready to use" version of Rockbox to use on this HW available somewhere? Or could someone be very kind and send me a copy of the version you are using?
Many thanks in advance,
Jakob Magnusson

See the release notes for version 3.6: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/MajorChanges
Any size hard drive is now supported by the standard builds. You can use the 3.6 release, or you can use the current builds, both will work fine.
What information have you found which still refers to the need to do a custom build? It should be updated, so if you tell us where we can sort that :)

Hi,
Thanks, great news for me!
I was looking at posts like
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=20629.msg144764#msg144764
but with this post and your clear answer I guess anyone searching for this type of info will be happy :)
Thanks.
BTW, in what forum should I seek/ask for feedback on peole using 240GB/Ipod 5.5? (if it is reasonable fast running 40.00 somgs etc)?
Regards,
Jakob

Right; those are over a year old :) I just wanted to make sure our documentation doesn't still claim it's not supported anywhere.

There's not really any point asking for such feedback, because there's no difference. If you have more files on the player, the directory cache will take slightly more memory, which decreases the buffer size slightly, but the worst case is you might lose, say, 0.5% of your battery life as a result? It won't be any slower to use.
