Track Name & Album Name flip-flop?

(1/2) > >>

wad11656:
Alright, so I've been working on this for DAYS.

You see, I have an iPod Photo (4G Color), and all my album artwork is in .rockbox/albumart/artist-album.jpg.

After adding some new songs & rebuilding the database and such one day, I realized that most of my songs were missing the artwork that I had worked so hard to include in my device.

When using the theme "blacknblue (glass)," I realized that the track name of the song was where the album name was meant to be and vise versa. I then realized that the tags of the songs must have messed up or something. (I had just recently used MediaMonkey for my first time with my device, which is what I think led to the problem)

When looking at the properties of the .mp3's, both in the database and file browser, all the information is in order--proper track name, proper album name, etc. In iTunes, I converted all tags to v2.4, then all to 2.3, then made all the tracks so that there is no information for anything in the tags besides "title," "artist," and "year." Nothing seems to work. My iPod still reads most of my mp3's so that it thinks the track name is the album name and the album name is the track name.

It is thus unable to fetch the proper album artwork.

This has gotta MAJOR bug..or I'm just doing something wrong. I know I'm putting the album artwork in the proper directory and naming everything properly. I have gotten it working before. I've been working on it for hours! (Not to mention the annoying "mysterious lost album artwork" problems that is supposedly a common problem in the Apple OS to add upon the frustration!)

I have also uninstalled and re-installed Rockbox firmware (v3.6).

Please help me! Any suggestions welcome!

Thank you!

EDIT: (Oops, should this be in the theming, appearance, customization or whatever forum?)

Does it happen with CabbieV2 (our default theme)?

wad11656:
Ah! Thank you SO much for responding!!!

No artwork showing on most songs, yes, as with all themes.

Improper placement of track name & album name, no.

The title name & album name are placed the same whether it displays the corresponding artwork or not.

--- Code: ---Track Name
Arist Name
Album Name
--- End code ---

I believe all themes still display the track name and album names where they're meant to be--I just realized that on blacknblue (glass), they weren't [on those that didn't display their corresponding artwork], which I was hoping would provide some clues on how to fix the problem. It's almost as if there's a "secret"/hidden error within the songs' tags... ???

Thank you again so much for responding!

saratoga:
So to be clear, the problem is that you can't get your album art to show up correctly in rockbox?  Are you sure its named correctly?  Try copying the tag info for a track where it doesn't display and then compare that to the actual path its located at.

Correct. However, SOME of my songs' album artwork work. They used to ALL work.

Something critical that I forgot to mention:
While building the database one time, Rockbox completely froze up. So I did a reboot. Unfortunately, it deleted my ENTIRE "albumart" folder. Ridiculous. So then I did some fiddling around in MediaMonkey using the scripts suggested on this site to both get album art and batch extract them.

But after all that mayhem, the album art didn't work like it used to. Only a few songs still displayed it properly. I then realized that the only songs whose art didn't display was the ones whose song title and album title were flip-flopped. So I'm thinking that I reset during the "building database" process so that it only had the chance to build a few songs and the rest were messed up somehow, switching the album and track name, making them unable to find the proper album art image.

(The explanation is all very vague, but I'm trying to keep it understandable.)

So I think I screwed up my songs somehow by resetting in the middle of a "building database" process. However, I think the whole system was frozen up anyway, so I couldn't do much else than reset it. I didn't know it would severely mess things up.

Okay, I went to check the tag info in the database per your suggestion, but my newly-re-installed Rockbox just asked to do my first "build database" process (even though it didn't ask to rebuild immediately after installation after first boot, but I digress). However, it froze up again [at "3983 found"]. I believe there must be a faulty audio file in my iPod--something about a song the firmware doesn't like...? I must have recently added a song that hindered the building process from working properly...? The backlight stays on and the wrench icon (forgive me if it's something else) in the top right continues to display. I can't hear any clicking noises from the device, signifying the HD is no longer being read or whateva.

I'll see if I can wait this out and see if it finally continues building, or see if I'll just have to reset, re-install, and delete my most recent songs and see if it'll build properly then. Pressing "PREV to return" does not function either.

Any other suggestions?

EDIT: Waited it out...no change. No sign of progress. So I reset it. Same problems occur. It's like it meets a stumbling block and just stops building. I'll try deleting my most recent songs tomorrow morning and see what happens. Still open to more suggestions!!!

EDIT2:
I used to limit all my album art images to 100x100, but this time kept them as their original size. Some are 500, 600 kb+ in size. Would that be a problem? Should I try scaling all of them?

EDIT3:
Resized images to 300x300, deleted songs that didn't work with album artwork then put them back in the device, re-installed rockbox, rebooted, rebuilt, rebooted, etc. Still no luck. If rebooting during the rebuilding process made something in the Rockbox firmware corrupt, it should have been fixed after re-installing. ANd if the songs were corrupt, it should have been fixed after deleting the messed up songs and putting them back on the device...

HELP!!!

EDIT4:
Alright, guys. Problem solved. I decided to browse through my albumart folder within my .rockbox folder on my device. While scrolling through them, on some of the images, I got an error: "unsupported 0" or "unsupported -4," I believe it was. I then realized that these specific album artwork files were particularly large in size and not scaled down. Therefore, I scaled them all to the 100-300 pixel range, and now every single song works with album art. Is this a known issue? That album art won't work if it's too big? Either in file size or resolution? Thanks!
