Sansa Clip V1 Battery discharging with Rockbox.
« on: August 10, 2010, 06:51:48 PM »
I recently purchased a sansa clip and immediately installed Rockbox with a current build. I notice that overnight the battery discharged from 100 percent to 50 percent in a matter of 24 hours. Has that been an issue with Clip V1 and rockbox ? If so, any solutions ? Thanks.

Battery life is known to be worse than the original firmware (not sure if this is what you're implying).  This is often the case with new ports.  It is generally the case for mature ports that they consume less battery than the original firmware.

I just came upon this thread after searching because I have the same problem as the OP, except I have a Sansa e260 v1.  I've noticed that ever since I reinstalled Rockbox 3.6 (I had to reinstall because I had to format the player for having a corrupt file system), the battery has been almost completely discharging overnight while the player is turned off even though I fully charged it before going to sleep.  This didn't happen with my original installation of 3.6, and even though I haven't actually tested the battery life, the low battery warning appears in both the original firmware and in Rockbox, so I don't think it's a calibration issue.

Probably a bad battery.

Probably a bad battery.
I didn't have this problem until literally right after I reinstalled Rockbox two days ago though.  The battery life was fine when I still had the old Rockbox install, and then the morning after I formatted and reinstalled, I noticed that the battery was almost completely drained.

Is there any evidence that it might be waking up randomly?  Does it ever make it through the night with battery level close to the initial level?

It's only been three nights since I reinstalled Rockbox and I haven't thought to see if it wakes up randomly, but I haven't noticed it.  It used to make it through the night with a full battery before I reinstalled Rockbox, but after each of the first two nights following reinstallation, the battery was drained.  Right now is the third morning, but I left the player charging overnight so I can't say whether or not it would have been drained otherwise.

Edit: Today is the morning after I made the post above.  I updated to the latest current build yesterday morning (I believe it was the 10/26 build) and the battery did NOT drain overnight.  I'll try it for a few more days and then I'll try 3.6 again to see what happens.

FWIW there is no rockbox 3.6 for the Sansa Clip V1.

For the record, I have never seen similar behavior on my e280 v1 or my Clip v1.

Bumping the thread, I'm having the same problem with Clip+ and RB 3.7. Before 3.7 (I bought my Sansa in September) I was using SVN builds, the one from early september didn't exhibit the problem, while the one I installed in october was draining the battery while powered off already. Since there are no related changes in 3.7.1, I assume the problem isn't widely known?

Ok, tested yesterday's SVN, no discharge overnight. Finally. Any idea though what that was? ;)
