It's good that you were able to fix your problem, but I wonder what caused that filesystem corruption, and I wonder if more corruption will happen.  You should at least do another filesystem check later after some use.  Since this is a Nano 1G, I'm reminded of the DMA problem that some people experience.

Well my problem got better I should say now that more time has passed. But it wasn't completely solved. In fact, I ended up with a problem that I hadn't seen before. On certain tracks it would actually try to play 2 at a time so I ended up with the world officially WORST mashups ever.

I ran another 2 instances of chkdsk and each came up with one more file needing attention. So in the end I decided to do what I guess any of you would do.

Did a full reformat, iTunes factory restore, and then installed RockBox 3.5.1 and loaded up some songs which worked fine.

Then I loaded up another 3gb to bring it up to 3.5 and went out for an hour or so during which time my iPod worked flawlessly.

In fact, loading songs onto it took a third of the time that it had in the past (just an estimate) and switching between songs now is virtually instantaneous.

I just read through that post you mentioned, at no time had I experienced any of the symptoms listed there so that's a nice sunday sigh of relief.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
