Mountpoint is not Writable
« on: July 29, 2010, 11:38:13 PM »
I'm trying to upgrade my Rockbox installation on my fourth generation iPod Photo. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04. I start by opening the Rockbox Utility with Terminal using gksu. A configuration error prompt then appears saying:
Code: [Select]
Your configuration is invalid. This is most likely due to a changed device path. The configuration dialog will now open to allow you to correct the problem.
So I click okay which brings me to the configuration window, with the correct audio player already highlighted. I then click okay and get the following error prompt:
Code: [Select]
The following errors occurred:
No mountpoint given
You need to fix the above errors before you can continue.
So, I go ahead and specify the iPod's mount point which is /media/ipod and click okay again. Now I get another error:
Code: [Select]
The following errors occurred:
Mountpoint is not writeable
You need to fix the above errors before you can continue.
And now I'm stuck. I do not know how to make the mountpoint writable. I had always thought it was, seeing as I have never had a problem dragging and dropping my music to and from the iPod. Hopefully someone can help. Thanks!

Linux will mount removable disks as read only if file system errors are found.  dmesg will tell you if this is the case.  If it is, try running a check using fsck.vfat

I had plugged my ipod into my wife's Mac to reset it, and it changed the disk format in the ipod.
Once I plugged it in on a Windows PC with itunes on it, it reformatted it for FAT32, and now it's writeable.
Hope this helps.
