Rockbox's equalizer question

lazybum:
Hi just a short query on rockbox's EQ

if i set the lower lower shelf filter to 1khz for example and set the gain to +1db. So frequencies up to 1khz has a gain of +1db right?
Then i set one of the peak filter at 40hz to +2db. Will this result in a +3db or +2db gain at 40hz?

Thanks in advance

torne:
If equaliser bands overlap, both will be applied.

lazybum:
so that means it will be +3db?
Alright thanks for the clarification

Chronon:
It's not that simple.  The peak filters have a width that's specified by the Q.  High Q implies a narrow peak and means that the gain is applied to a small range of frequencies.  The actual gain applied at a given frequency depends on how the various filters add at that frequency.

I have previously thought that it would be a nice thing to have some visualization of the actual gain profile based on center frequency, Q and gain for each band.  This would give you a continuous line plotting gain as a function of frequency.

Yeah i simplified the scenario for understanding's sake. Just wanted to know if they overlap or not.
