First playlist tracks repeat
jmf:
Hi everybody - I'm running the 3.6 build on an 80gb ipod 5.5g. I'll start the player up and it will resume playing track A. Track A will then also be listed as the 2nd or 3rd track in the play list. Sometimes this happens 2 or 3 times, and occassionally with any one of the first 3 tracks. Once I forward through the tracks, the issue does not come up again until I stop the song (not pause) and restart.
As an example:
I start up the player and it resumes playing Song A (Track # 1)
Song A is also listed as Track #3 in the play list
Song B (Track #2) is also listed as Track #4.
I just also noticed that I do not see any songs listed when I browse for files.
I haven't found any doco referring to this sort of behavior... Does this sound familiar to any of you?
Chronon:
Strange. I can't reproduce this on my Gigabeat F40 (with Rockbox 3.6). I tried with a dynamic playlist and one saved to the hard drive.
Does clearing your settings improve matters?
Regarding not seeing any files when browsing with the file browser, can you first make sure that the "View files" setting is not set to Playlists?
jmf:
I just checked the file view setting and you were dead on with that - had it set to Playlists.
I also tried clearing the settings and that did not get me anywhere. It still loads dupes into the play list when resuming from stop. When I browse the playlist, the dupes are not there, but the next tracks display shows them. I tried changing themes to see if that had anything to do with it, but even a theme that only displays the very next track (as opposed to the next 5 tracks) still pulls the dupe tracks when restarting.
Additionally, I've seen a couple of instances in which the dupe track has been inserted after I've already looked at the upcoming tracks and did not see any dupes. It seems like in some cases, the dupe is added while the track to be duplicated is playing. However, I see a fair number of instances in which the 2nd track is duped before it has started playing.
Chronon:
I just tried starting a playlist then shutting down and resuming playback after booting again. I didn't do this before and thought that perhaps this had something to do with resuming after shutting down instead of just starting a new playlist. However, I am not seeing duplicates at the 3rd track in this case either.
EDIT: I changed themes to one that shows the playlist in the WPS (was using the default before). I just observed that when I started a playlist and shut down while track one was playing, when I boot with the start screen set to "Resume playback" Rockbox set the second to final track (11/12) as the current track and the next track as well. Investigating further.
EDIT2: Using the zeroclutter theme I created a playlist containing one album with 12 tracks (APC's Thirteenth Step). I started playback and let the first track (The Package) play for about 15 seconds. Then I shut down the player and booted again. I selected Resume Playback from the main menu and it resumed playing track 3 instead, this time showing the observed repetition of the current track two positions later in the playlist. Strangely, while still playing track 3 (The Noose) I changed themes to cabbie v2 causing a rebuffer. Strangely, it rebuffered the correct track (The Package).
EDIT3: Some of the behavior seems to depend on the state of the buffer. I let it play for 45 seconds under the same circumstances and this time it resumed in the correct place but listed the next track as a duplicate of the 12th track instead of correctly as the 2nd. During playback of the spurious duplicate changing the theme to cabbie v2 once again caused Rockbox to rebuffer the correct track (Track #2).
A bug report should be filed but we should try to identify the nature of the bug first. I am a bit busy for the next couple of days. It would be great if you can gather as much specific info on how to cause this behavior and what factors affect it and file a bug report on flyspray.

Interesting... Given that you do not see this issue with the default theme, that's going to be my answer as I don't particularly care what it looks like. And, being a 2 week user of the f/w, I don't expect I can tell you much that would help. But if there is anything I can do to help troubleshoot, I'd be more than happy to test and report back. Just let me know what you need. If I encounter this issue with the default theme, I'll let you know that as well. I can't thank you enough for your help.
Edit: Didn't see your last edit. Was the correct resume/dupe with the modded theme or the default?
Sorry - didn't read carefully enough. ::)
I'm back to guessing... I read the doc on writing theme files back when I downloaded the installer, but I have no experience with it. I gather the playlist must be incorrectly feeding the display, but then it would appear that the player is drawing the list from he diplay listing as opposed to th actual playlist. Have no idea how/why that might be the case. But that would edxplain why a theme that correctly interprets the playlist would kill the playback on the other file. Almost seems like it owuld have to be something about the ordering, otherwise the currenrt track would seem to be the correct one... Seems like the working theme would only have an impact on the playback if the track and file listi ng correlation were corrected by implementing the new theme setting.
I can't read what I'm typing right now, so I apologize in advance for the lousy typing. Any idea why the text box on this forum doesn't want to scroll?
