What build for a upgraded Ipod video?
« on: July 25, 2010, 05:10:18 PM »
Looking at getting a 80gb 5th generation Ipod video and upgrading to a 120GB drive (was going to do a 240GB, but after research I don't think I could figure it out).

So, can use a build for the 60/80GB Ipod video or will I have to modify it to work? I don't think I'm up to modifying it myself to be honest.

Thanks guys

ETA- I searched, but didn't see anything to answer my question...although it's possible I saw the answer and just didn't know it since I know so little about it!

The "60/80 GB" build is for Ipod video which have 64MB of RAM (and a 60 or 80 GB harddisk at manufacturing), while the "30 GB" is for models which had 32MB of RAM.

It will work equally well if you upgrade the disk to 120GB or 240GB, out of the box support for 240GB was added in 3.6

Oh really? So I can upgrade a 80GB to 240GB and the current release will work without mod?

Awesome!!

Headed to Afghanistan soon and I need my FLAC collection so this is good news for me!

Thanks

Sorry to bump this thread, especially as a newbie...my 120GB Zune recently crapped out on me and rather than buy another one, I was thinking of purchasing an upgraded Ipod video from Ipodzens as seen here: http://www.ipodzens.com/ipz_prductinfo.aspx?prd_id=321

So based on the last response, am I to understand that if I purchased that, the current build for the 80GB Ipod video could be installed on the 240GB from Ipodzens without any further necessary tweaking? I've never used Rockbox before so if it's going to require anything super complicated I'd probably have to rethink that decision. It would be super nice to be able to sync my FLAC over to my MP3 player without having to convert the files back to MP3 though 8)

Yes. All sizes of hard disk work on Rockbox out of the box on all hard disk iPods. The installer will just work.
