Because each player has different hardware and different firmware update procedures, so it can only be installed on players where someone who owns the player has actually done the work necessary to develop an install procedure and drivers for the device.

Same reason you can't install windows on your player.  Operating systems need to have drivers written for all the hardware inside a device.
