Ipod Classic 30gb

(1/1)

HeadCase02:
I have an ipod classic 30gb and was wondering why I can't play wma files on it. in the manual it says I am supposed to be able to play wma files and the it shows the files when I have the setting "show supported files" but when I pick the file to play... it will go through all 18 files in the folder in about 5 sec then stops. Anyone have any ideas about what is wrong. I also tried converting the files to mp3, but they are licensed autobook files from an online library and just comes out as digital noise/static. I can play the wma files on my computer with no problems. Anyone have any ideas?

Lear:
Rockbox does not support DRM, so licensed files won't play.

There are also different kinds of WMA (Standard, Professional, Voice...), and not all of them are supported.

HeadCase02:
Licensed MP3s play without a problem... it is just the licensed wma files that won't play. So why does one work and the other doesn't.

Lear:
Well, I'm only guessing what "licensed" means in this case (and it could be different for the MP3 files). :) But regardless of that, if the WMA file doesn't play, it is most likely either DRM-protected (i.e., encrypted) or in a format Rockbox doesn't support yet. If you're using a recent build, then WMA Pro should work, but WMA Voice isn't supported yet, as far as I know.

If you open a file in Windows Media Player and select File > Properties, you should be able to find out what kind of WMA it is and if it is protected by DRM or not.

Licensed MP3s don't exist.
