Fuze v1 and v2 battery life
« on: July 21, 2010, 02:29:39 AM »
I was just wondering If its still true that the v1 fuze has a drastically reduced battery life under RB or if current builds have mitigated that?

I know my v2 seems to be better when playing vorbis files, its def no worse then OF with vorbis, havent had a chance to fully test my v1 yet(just got it)

I really do hope that over time RB can get better batt life on most codecs when compared to OF, would be a real kick in sandisk/sansa's heads if people hacking a firmware togather could do a drastically better job then they have done(already feel RB is drastically better for all but batt life, where for me its not that hugely diff)

Any info would be helpfull, I have alot of people ask me about this and see alot of people ask about it on a few forums I am part of, so it would be nice to have an official word on the subject :)

I don't get this obsessing with beating the OF in every single aspect. There is a good reason optimization is a bit behind as the rb devs don't have the documentation, time and ressources. If your friends are so concerned with battery life, they probably should stick with the OF, no use forcing it down their throat, eh? I personally don't feel much pain with battery life of 15h, and if there is room for future improvements, all the better.

Here is an "official" word on the subject:

Read www.rockbox.org , everything is there.

Hint, if you want to read about Fuze, search for "Fuze" and click.
Then if you want to read about battery, search for "battery" and click.

We looked at it for a little while last summer and couldn't really figure out what was going on.  The high unboosted clock is bad, but lowering it seemed to make things worse, which didn't really make sense.  The IRAM also seemed a lot slower then we expected, which also didn't make sense.

this was what I was kinda wondering about, strange....that is a bit counterintuitive, but maybe somebody will figure the trick out one of these days, till then i may endup back on OF for my v1 vuze ;)

currently it seems to me that the v2 fuze is a more desirable buy then the v1, if only for the longer batt life after rockboxing.

It's good to see the v2 with almost double battery duration in rockbox than v1...
What's about that now?
