iRiver H10 freezes during playback.

Like the topic says, it just stops in the middle of a song and I have to turn it off, then on again before it will recover (I let it run in the hope it would recover on its own, but no).  Even a hard reset won't fix it any more than power off/on.

Is this a vibration issue with the hard drive?  If so, it's really touchy!  I searched Google and the Rockbox forum for mentions of this issue and found nothing.  A disk check returns no errors, and everything seems to read/write fine.  But in the car, in my coat pocket, you name it--it will freeze, sometimes twice during the same song (music files aren't corrupted, either).

Would a new HDD fix this?  So far I've had rotten luck with switching them out, but I'm willing to try.  My H320 doesn't behave this way....

Does it still do it?
I ask because mine started to do that rather often for no apparent reason when I updated to the latest RockBox version roughly around the date of your post.
However, with susequent daily build updates, it has since worked perfectly as usual. Maybe try the latest build and see what happens.  Your problem may fix itself as it seems more and more bugs, if there were any that is, have been worked out.
With the amount of features and flexibilities RB offers, I can't think of using my H10-20 without it!

If it is a similar problem that mine had, it should be just fine with the ever-evolving RockBox.  Truly astounding software!  Especially the 'Reset Settings' function, which I use when I have messed with too many other settings.  You may try that one and see what happens.  It's under the 'Manage Settings' menu if I recall.

However in case it is your HD, I replaced mine with a Toshiba MK8009GAH 80gb HD. It is 1 mm thicker but the edges of it are 'stepped' for lack of a better term, and it pretty much fit right in there.  All I had to do was trim the blue rubber stuff because the connector is off to the side a little. Also, the cable for the orig HD is thicker than for the Toshiba so I just used an exacto knife and carefully scraped the 'doubler material' off so it became thinner.  Slid right in and is in there and working as I type this note.

The only glitch was that for some reason, none of my PC's would see it or allow any type of access to format it. All I did was buy a couple of cheap ext HD enclosures from Ebay so I could connect directly to my PC.  This worked great and then I put the old HD in the enclosure and have a 20g ext HD, too.

Also put a much better battery in it as well.  Runs nearly two full days at work without a recharge.  Quite happy, actually, especially with the RockBox software!
