NES Emulator {RockNES FTW}
« on: July 15, 2010, 02:24:37 PM »
NES games are teh ****  =P   What I am suggesting is making a NES Emulator ( like how rockboy plays GB/GBC )  Playing retro NES games would be pretty awsome to do on my sansa e280 ( or any other player that supports Rockbox too  ;) ) . Maybe even having the sound option to listen to your music while you play a NES game too , or just the original sound for the NES game. This would be a pretty sweet idea to have , ja?
If this were to come out too it could be named RockNES =P

Anyone vote 'yes' on this? ( Comments? )

Hmm...would there be a rockbox build that includes the nes emulator for the sansa e280 yet?

Not officially.  There may or may not be an unsupported build with such a patch applied.  Open patches in Flyspray haven't been applied to the trunk yet and are not part of official builds.

KK thanks! I hope it does get finished and also has some sort of option that allows you to either listen to your music, or just the game itself.
Thanks Again!
-- I will see if I can find the current patch for it and put it on my sansa to see if I can play any NES games. Maybe the original zelda, that game was so much fun =P

EDIT: NVM I cannot compile /program and would never be able to get a working NES emulator on my sansa e200 due to that. I though maybe there was a working 'download and save to mp3' NES emulator (even if it is not finished), but turned out there wasn't. Could anyone help me on this? TYVM!

I suppose I could try to apply the latest version of the patch and attempt to compile. If it is successful, perhaps I will build for the e200 with the patch and hand you the .zip.  EDIT[/i]: Argh, it'll have to wait for a few days for me to do it.

Be aware, though, that if I do so, the entire build will not be supported by any of the Rockbox crew. You can always overwrite it with an official build if you need to, but be aware.

Thankyou so much! You are very helpful =P
Hmm...has the NES emulator been given up on? Last time it was updated was a year ago...
Anyways, Thanks Again!

Sorry, I've been busy over the past several days since I got my laptop back. I'll get a build environment set up on it an get the build made soon. :)

If you mean the patch itself, AFAIK nobody's posted any updates to it.

Oh, no I didn't mean the patch, just wondering if you have made any progress on compiling it =P
Thankyou Again!

I could be wrong but an NES emulator would be very slow. Button-mapping would be an issue too. This is coming from an aspiring-dev.

Don't get me wrong. NES games would be awesome - but useless unless it could run at least 80%+

i'm pretty sure an nes emu on sansa fuze would run  because they did port ipodlinux to sansa e200 and that never got updated but it would be need nice to see a emulater besides gameboy/gb color. don't get me wrong but zelda oracle of ages/seasons is fun and interesting to play with a wheel on a sansa fuze!

You're probably right - but would someone port iPod Linux to other targets, and/or emus to RB targets. I'm not sure about how Sansa'd stack against iPods (IMO - Sansa >>>> iPod)...but processor is the big factor. I could just be babbling though. I really don't know a whole lot.

I have both of those games on my sansa too ;)  they are fun I use the scroll wheel for start/select, what do you use it for?

Ipod linux can be run on a sansa e200??!??? Hmm... I would like to test it out, maybe  even have a triple boot of original firmware, ipod linux and rockbox =P (though I doubt that would work well ) ...and I thought Ipod linux was just for ipods...
