Chip 8 Games
« on: July 15, 2010, 02:12:10 PM »
I recently downloaded some old Chip 8 games because I couldn't find any new rockbox games for download ( the ones under plugins, games anyone know if there are any new ones out there???)
...Well, the controls are all messed up on the Chip 8 games I downloaded
( probably because they were originally meant for a PC/graphing calculator...)  Some games none of the buttons do anything, and some the scroll wheel moves only right, I am wondering how to set keys or fix this somehow, anyone have anything helpful that would work?
Thanks!

You can find instructions on setting game-specific key maps here:

thankyou  ;) I will now try to get it working. I can just edit the ch8 game with a text editor right?
Hmm under 'The default key mapping between Chip8 keys and RockBox keys is as follows:'  I do not see all players so my sansa is not there...I am unsure what number/letter corresponds to what button on my MP3?
Thanks Again!

I read the keymap from chip8.c and put that information on the wiki page.

Thanks, but I still cannot get it working ( I can get working controls sure, but none of the games like it ...)  This is due to using the scoll wheel. One click of it is the same as pressing and holding down one button. As soon as you click the scroll wheel, you lose control of the game (any game. )
I cannot seem to get the two buttons above/below the scroll wheel working as the up/down keys...Is there no support for those keys? If I could use those keys instead of the scroll wheel, I wouldn't have the bug of the scroll wheel making me lose entire control of the game.
Anything helpful you can suggest?
Thankyou!

According to the posted key map the Up and Down keys don't map to anything currently.  If you want to change this you need to edit the keymap in chip8.c and build a new Rockbox.

Wow, that sounds like a whole heck of a lot work for keymapping...I don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon though lol  ::) (I'm a noob ) lol
