3rd Gen iPod - Cannot Find Device

(1/1)

Jaloosk:
Hello,

I have installed RockBox 3.5.1 on my 3rd Gen iPod.  I love this software, thanks :)

I'm having trouble with it; I haven't copied any files to the device since I installed the RockBox software.  The computer I used to install RockBox went kaput, and now I'm using a new computer with Windows 7.  When connecting my iPod to the computer now, I get a message about 'cannot find a driver for this device' and the device doesn't show up in Device Manager or disk management.

I downloaded the latest version of the RockBox utility, and it can't find my device either (and won't let me select because there's no mount point).

Help?

saratoga:
You need to use the apple firmware on the 3G for copying files.  The USB controller was never reverse engineered.

Jaloosk:
Are there directions for this?  I (believe) I used a USB cable to install the RockBox utility...

(Thanks for the quick response by the way :) )

torne:
When you installed Rockbox, it was using the original firmware, so USB worked. Think about it ;)

Jaloosk:
Gotcha.  Thanks for your help.  ;D
