It just doesn't work - e280r
« on: July 11, 2010, 02:47:39 PM »
I tried to install the rockbox on my e280r but ti keeps giving me the message that the device could not be found. I followed the steps to put the sansa into the manufacturing mode but when I install the driver it says it cannot be verified and by the driver (in device mngr) has the little yellow caution icon, and nothing. After that the player is frozen. I would like to install the rockbox and/or get rid of the rapsody version on it, but how do I do that? Any help would be appreciated.

What is giving the message that the device can't be found?

Is the player bootable right now?

The blue ring is on but nothing on the screen. When plugged in my computer I can't see it anywhere except under the devices as "manufacturing mode" with that yellow caution sign. When I unplugged the sansa I couldn't do anything with it. The blue ring was on and that was it. Finally I took out the batery and was able to restart the player.

Just to verify: you manually installed the driver despite its inability to be verified?

correct. when I plugged it in while holding select button the computer automatically tries to install it but then gives me the message that it can't find the driver. Then I go to device manager and don't see anything under the USB connections however there is another section and it says something like Tango Digital Media Platform. I click on it and chose update driver and chose the location of the driver i downloaded. After that message comes that the driver cannot be verified and instead of Tango Digital Media Platform it says manufacturing mode with yellow caution sign.

Okay.  So what happens when you try to run e200rpatcher.exe?

sorry, wasn't in the forum :-). Nothing happens. It says it can't find the device. Like I said, nothing works. I did everything that is out there. Patch, manufacturing mode, reset option... nothing... so frustrating.  >:(

What are the USB options called in the original firmware?  (e.g. MSC/MTP or Rhapsody/Plays-For-Sure).

(I just want to verify that it is, indeed, a Rhapsody model.)

I am having the exact same problem.
I definitely have the e280r (does it matter what mode I'm in - Rhapsody or Play-For-Sure)?  Seems to be a problem with the driver when in Mfg model.

Are you using Windows 7?  Perhaps it is rejecting the unsigned driver?

I don't use this OS, but I found a page about disabling signature checks to allow installation of unsigned drivers.
