New Ipod Video Hard Drive, zif latch missing! (Solved)

(1/1)

GooD Ol TarviS:
I got a 30GB replacement HDD for my iPod Video, but the ZIF cable latch was missing and the seller failed to mention this.

Is there anything else (not permanent, so no glue...) I can do to keep the ZIF cable inserted at all times? I still have my old hard drive around, is it possible to transplant the latch from there onto the new one?

Thanks in advance.

Chronon:
The latch is just a piece of plastic whose ends slip into recesses that act as the hinge.  If you're careful you should be able to pop it out of the old drive and try to slip it into the new one.  Don't force it, though, as it's possible that the two connectors use latches with slightly different dimensions.

GooD Ol TarviS:
Any advice on that? Should I pull the latch upwards or toward the direction that the cable goes? (sideways)

Chronon:
Try to get the latch to flex in the middle (so that it bows a bit).  This will shorten the distance from end to end and should allow the latch to slip out of the connector.  You can probably squeeze the two ends of the connector toward each other.  I think you can also use a small tool to apply some pressure on one end of the latch in the direction of the opposite end.  This should naturally cause the piece to bow in the middle and allow it to release from the connector.

GooD Ol TarviS:
Alright, I got it off successfully (I think?) How would I put it on the new one? Does it just pop in?

EDIT: I got it in!  :D  I noticed one side had a bunch of slots on it (where pins go) and put it right under the pins. I popped in one side and then popped down the clasp into all the pins until I got to the other end. Works great! Thanks for the help!
