suggestion to improve options for voice generation.
(1/1)
alexwallis646:
I have a suggestion which I think would improve voice generation.
That is, adding support to rockbox for speech dispatcher.
Speech dispatcher is similar to sapi for windows, it isn't a synthesizer in itself, but it allows a lot of voices to be run through it.
I think adding support to allow rockbox to generate voices through it would increase choice for users considerably.
For example, I use speech dispatcher to run a synthesizer called voxin, which is basically the eloquence speech synthesizer used by most blind users who use jaws, which tends to be the synthesizer of choice when using a computer or mobile phone.

Are you talking about Rockbox or about Rockbox Utility?
alexwallis646:
Sorry, I should have been clearer, I am suggesting adding speech dispatcher as another way to generate voice clips, as this would allow clips to be generated by any synthesizer being run through speech dispatcher.
So I suppose I am talking about adding support for it to the rockbox utility, and also the build system, so if you choose to run /tools/configure you could select it from there as an option to build your voice.

I've had a short look at the documentation and didn't found anything to write the syntesis output to a file. Did I miss something? Writing to a file is absolutely necessary for using it for generating voice files, so if it doesn't provide this it's unfortunately useless. The idea behind Speech Dispacher looks really interesting.
alexwallis646:
Hi, aah that is unfortunate, I didn't realise there is no way to output to a file, I will contact the developer and ask if there is a way to do this, or if he might be interested in implementing such a feature, as if it were possible to integrate support for it into the build system and rbutil, I think it would really expand the possibilities for building voices.
so is the only question I need to ask is it possible to output to a file? is there anything else you would need to know?
