Why does my Clip 8GB mute the sound while fast forward & rewind?

Because that's the intended functionality of Rockbox, one which has been discussed at length on and off the board.

Hm, it seems to be hardware dependent, as it's the same with the OF.

This isn't dependent on hardware. This is dependent on someone writing code that actually plays sound while rewinding or fast forwarding.

Such code is not trivial to write. I'm e.g. not sure if it can be done in a codec-independent way, so this might need work in every single codec. There could be a high RAM cost as well. We won't know until someone actually tries,  but it seems that people with the technical abilities to do this aren't interested enough to do the work.
