Chronon:
Most media players I have used give the option to set the base directory of the media library (or even to scan the entire hard drive).  Default location for media and default installation directory are two different things.  Rockbox does have a default installation directory -- /.rockbox.

I think a note that points out advantages of keeping media separated from firmware resources would be much preferable to suggesting a default location to people.  On my M:Robe 100 the files synced by the M:trip application are located in directories like /User/Music/M0000003/.  It would be misleading to suggest that this location is less suitable than the root of the player from Rockbox's standpoint.

The root is fine.  If you are happy with your files in this location then that's great.  I don't think we should coerce other people into sorting their files in a particular way.  (I like my media stored in a deeper file tree, for instance).

Llorean:
I would think that the fact that Rockbox claims to work with the music already on the player would suggest pretty clearly that it's not necessary to put the music in some suggested folder.

If anything should be mentioned it should be a note for folders it's suggested *not* to put music in.

AlexP:
This is already mentioned sort of "While files may be organized however you like" - I'll make it more explicit.

MokeyDwarf:
Apparently no one understands the meaning of the word "suggested".

Does this mean it HAS to be there....no. I am TRYING to help new people to NOT have the issues I had. You can organize it however you want but the manual does NOT say where the folder you made could be placed...FFS why is this such a hard concept to grasp.

AlexP:
There is no need to get upset - I said I'd change it, and I have.  It now reads "Files may be placed wherever you like on the \dap{}, but it is strongly suggested not to place them in the /.rockbox folder."

Contrary to what you seem to believe, I do know what suggested means.  I suggest everyone calms down :)
