Can 3.5 still be found for download?
« on: June 29, 2010, 10:18:18 PM »
I'm finding 3.6 to be a bit  buggy on my ipod photo, and want to go back to 3.5.  I can't seem to find it though.  The old old release archive only seems to have 1.0 - 2.5.  Any help would be appreciated.

what specifically is buggy? it would be very helpful to know so the issues can be fixed!

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

I noticed two things started happening after upgrading my ipod photo to 3.6.

1. Sometimes when turning it on, I get the apple battery with a lightning bolt through it icon, which requires a hard reboot.  This was a consistent issue for most of rockbox's life, but had been fixed in 3.5.  I've had the same thing happen on 3.6 when plugging the usb cable in to put new music on.

2. When playing music, about half the time, the selected theme disappears (I personally use DGT curled leaf).  I'll look down 10 minutes later or so, and the theme will be back, but something is causing it to not consistently display.  This has never happened on the menu screens, strictly when playing music.

If you need any more detail, or I can be of any more assistance, please let me know.

It wasn't really fixed in 3.5, but I added a dodgy workaround that prevented the situation from occuring. This workaround caused much *worse* behaviour for a reasonable number of people (such as the player turning itself on and draining its battery at random times) so it was removed and replaced with a different attempt to work around it. The new way doesn't cause the serious issues, but doesn't fix the original problem for everyone.

I am at a loss for what to do about this; I've been unable to discern any pattern in the behaviour relating to models or OF versions. The underlying issue is in the Apple rom bootloader, not our code, so a real fix isn't likely.

Fair enough.  I thankfully never experienced the battery drain you mentioned.  I guess my problem 1 can be disregarded with that information.  The theme issue is still a bit quirky.  For my purposes, 3.5 still works best for me.  Thanks for the explanation though.  I appreciate it.
