Songs w/ artwork & in both Rockbox AND Apple Firmware??

Hi!

Okay, so I have been trying ALL day to get this to work. I am wondering if I can create a music directory that both the Apple firmware and the Rockbox firmware recognizes AND maintain my imbedded artwork for my Apple firmware and somehow use my cover.jpg files so the artwork shows up in the Rockbox firmware. Is this possible? I have tried shortcutting to the file, but that didn't work...

I'm running an iPod Nano 2G and have access to a Mac OS X, Windows XP, and Windows 7. Mac OS X is my primary operating system.

Please, please, PLEASE help me!! It would be VERY much appreciated!

If I recall, iPod firmware can use either 1) embedded artwork 2) artwork in a database.  Rockbox artwork must not be embedded.

Keep in mind that the Nano 2G is considered "unstable": http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IPodNano2GPort

As an attempt has it been tried to save the cover art as a filename that is *identical* to the album name in the subdirectory where the song files are?  That is, the artwork for AlbumX would be AlbumX.jpg or AlbumX.bmp

Have you tried looking in the iPod Nano2g Manual regarding Album Art placement?

You'll find that it describes placement and naming of Album Art quite nicely.

Even though my problem is now solved, I'll just mention...iTunes organizes songs in a VERY wacky way...it has a Music folder, then it has 3 folders within that: F00, F01, and F02. Within each one of these, it has MANY songs and randomizes the name of the .mp3 files to a 4-digit file name. (i.e. "4QX8.mp3") If you change this file name, move it, or try to manually add other "Fxx" folders within the iPod or other .mp3's, the Apple firmware does not recognize the songs. Adding songs HAS to go through iTunes or some other 3rd-party applications that knows how to properly add songs to the Apple iPod firmware.

The Rockbox firmware does not recognize embedded album artwork that the Apple firmware is able to recognize.

Gah! Thank you so much! I was so incompetent! Sometimes the answer lies in the simplest things... ::) The iPod Nano 2G guide (iPod Nano 2G guide) is the most beautiful thing I have laid my eyes on. Ha ha. Okay, not exactly, but it is SUCH a relief after spending probably 15 cumulative hours ( :o ) downloading loads of random 3rd-party software and messing around in the iPod's files, that I am FINALLY able to solve my problem. In all my search, I never found that nifty little guide, but I'm glad I know where it is now! Thank you for directing me to it! Supposedly, your album artwork does NOT have to only be named SOLELY "cover.jpg" to work, which the Album Art Wiki does not seem to make clear. It CAN be named "trackname.jpg" to work as cover art if it is in the same directory as the song. There are also other ways to organize the cover art as well. Once I tried "trackname.cover.jpg" and "cover.trackname.jpg," which I was pretty sure wouldn't work [,and it didn't], but I can't believe I didn't just think of doing "trackname.jpg"! Oh well! :P

Problem solved; Thanks both of you for your help. I feel very very simple-minded, but I'm glad the problem's over with all the same.
