D2 touchscreen icon mode?
« on: June 20, 2010, 04:10:15 AM »
Since touchscreens are pretty annoying to use with a stylus, is there any chance of getting the Rockbox menus on the D2 to use icons instead of text? IMO this would tremendously improve the usability of the touchscreen within rockbox.

rockbox by default uses a 3x3 grid mode which puts 9 buttons on the display, it should all be explained in the manual

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

I meant making the main rockbox interface more closely resemble something like the original firmware in absolute point mode. Clicking on text with fingers is pretty difficult.

Right now your best option is to seriously increase the font size and the scrollbar width I think.

Yeah probably.  Touchscreens are becoming more common.  Eventually someone will probably take an interest in improving the UI to work with them.

Hi red,

with some changes in the SVN over the last days we got some new touchscreen actions like cancel, select and others. Additionally it's possible now to define screen related buttons so that you are able to define different buttons on different screens just to please the actual needs of the screen.
Take a look at my AF_Flow theme. Here I defined "icons" to browse through the menus, to increase or decrease the volume, to jump into the pictureflow plugin, to scan through the radio frequencies or to go to the quickscreen options.
For me the absolute point mode is working like a charm now. Maybe this could be something for you, too?

Try it here: http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?themeid=865&target=cowond2
