No Playback On Sansa e280

I have RB on my e280 and it worked great until I recently fired the unit up again to try it (I bricked my Fuze). It won't play any of the tracks that are aboard; each title shows up with an ERR preface.

Using the org OS, I was able to switch to MTP USB mode and connect it to my PC. The tracks work fine in WMP, so they themselves are not corrupt. I can also listen to them through the org. OS, untethered from the PC.

Why is RB not recognizing them all of a sudden?

Please tell us what version of Rockbox you are using (either release number or revision number if it isn't a specific release).  Please make sure you are using the most recent release (or a current build*) if you wish to discuss possible problems.   

I'm not sure what you mean about an "ERR" preface.  Are you using the database or the file browser to view your music?  If it's the former then maybe the Rockbox database got corrupted somehow.  Does a scan of the file system reveal any errors?

It just hung up for the umpteenth time while I was testing it. I can't even power it off, so I'll have to pull the battery at home this evening and restart it.

The error started yesterday, so I DL'd the latest version just now (without a new bootloader) to see if that would make a difference. It doesn't. In attempting to playback a single track (flagged as "??"), it hung on me.

Did you see Chronon's question about the database?  It sounds like you are using it.  What happens if you rebuild it, or better yet try playing a file directly without using it?

I second the database rebuild suggestion.

The only time I've seen the "ERR" prefix is when I've moved or renamed a track that has been saved to a playlist.  The path referenced in the playlist (or in this case, possibly your database file) is no longer valid, so Rockbox looks for the file and can't find it.

Even if you haven't changed anything since you activated the database, it may just have a zero & one swapped around somewhere. Rebuild it and your problem may solve itself.
