keep the backlight off, when changing volume/tracks for sansa clip
« on: June 13, 2010, 05:28:48 PM »
I recently rockboxed my sansa clip v2 and it works really fine. In the past i've used rockbox on my iriver h320. There i had the option to change the volume or to switch tracks without turning on the backlight, when pressing the buttons. Is it possible to implement this function on the Sansa Clip port of Rockbox?

greetings,

Albert

I'm mostly sure we never had that option.  Were you running some unofficial build?

Are you thinking of "Backlight on hold"?  When set to "Off", this allows you to change track or volume without turning on the backlight while Hold is enabled.  This only works with players that have a remote, though (for obvious reasons).

No its not the function "backlight on hold".. i'm not sure which version i've used on the h320, because i've sold it 2-3 years ago. So i'm not really sure if this version was an official one or not. The only thing i remember is, that i've updated it quite frequently from the official rockbox page and that there was an option under lcd settings were i was able to set it to my likenings (like "disable backlight when changing volume/tracks").. might it be possible, that someday this will be included in the current rockbox version?

I don't recall anything like that in official builds either.

Sounds like a custom build using this patch:

This would really be practical (also for sansa clip+)

At least, the Cowon original Firmware for the D2 was able to allow volume, pause and next track at hold position, which also meant no backlight after some time!

This is a good feature if you use your player to learn languages - there you have to pause very often!
I would appreciate, if it would be possible to have such a feature (at least for volume and pause)
