2 bricked e280's - Is it rockbox?
« on: June 10, 2010, 07:36:03 PM »
I have owned two Sansa e280's and installed rockbox on both of them.  They ran rockbox fine for months and then one day they would not start up and I was unable to unbrick them.  Has anyone else experienced this.  I assumed if I were going to brink the player it would happen when installing rockbox.  Could rockbox brick a player even after it has been used for so long with no problems?  Have I just gotten a few bad sansas?

I just ordered a Fuze to try it again. (Isn't that the definition of insanity!?)

Any advice?

Thanks

I don't think anyone has ever reported bricking an  e200v2, but you never know.  I'd pull the batteries, let it sit for a few, and then put them back in just to be sure they didn't crash.

I use my e280 daily and it has been going strong with Rockbox for years.  I don't know what the explanation is for your experience.

Did they both fail the same day? How are you charging them - via a PC USB port, or some other charger?

I've used and abused my e280 for almost 4 years now, and have had rockbox on it for nearly that long.  NEVER had any problem whatsoevever.   Battery still lasts for forever.  This thing has paid back the 99 dollars I spent for it many times over. In the same time period my biking partner has gone through 3 ipod nanos.

I've successfully un-bricked three e380s since October and all have been happily running Rockbox since.  The only one that doesn't is one I'm pretty sure I screwed up while trying to unbrick, so it's not really a loss. One of the V2s blew a battery (also hardly Rockbox's fault, as the player was turned off at the time), but otherwise it's been smooth sailing.  Rockbox runs exceptionally well on all three (two V1s and a V2), and with a 16GB card, my V1 is my primary player.

Could there have been a glitch while installing a  new Rockbox version? Have you tried the Rockbox Utility to give 'em an overhaul (fresh bootloader, etc)?
