Nano 2G boosting
« on: June 02, 2010, 01:59:26 PM »
Hiyo, I noticed that on my Nano 2G the CPU frequency is boosting itself every second or two when all I'm doing is playing a MP3 file.
I was wondering if this is normal? Doesn't this kill the battery time?
I don't know much about this stuff. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

This has been bugging me for a while. I finally decided to ask.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Yes.

Compared to always boosting the CPU?  No.  CPUs use less power if you run them at slower speeds.

It automatically boosts when it needs to, if it ran permanently at a low speed then it wouldn't be able to decode and play music without skipping.  By boosting automatically when needed it runs as much as possible at a low speed, which saves battery.
