clip+ USB connect, keeps rebooting

(1/1)

jfinnie:
When I connect the USB cable to my Clip+ 8GB (rockboxx'd as per wiki) it goes to a continuous cycle of reboot / rockbox spash screen / USB plug image / reboot.  It stops rebooting when I disconnect the USB lead.  If I switch to OF I can connect device over USB successfully.

The wiki says that a newer version of mkamsboot is required from SVN (newer than the version that is linked to from within the wiki?) to fix certain related USB functionality - is this part of it?

I couldn't see anywhere with a binary of the utility - do I have to build it from source or does anyone have a recent build of mkamsboot?

Vague Rant:
Indeed, this is related to the bootloader as generated by mkamsboot. You'll need to either find someone else's compile of mkamsboot or compile it yourself from SVN, as advised on the wiki.

If you don't feel comfortable doing either of those, you can hold Left (|<<) or Home on the Clip+ while plugging in your DAP and this will force the original firmware to boot; you'll have to do this manually each time you wish to connect via USB until you get a chance to update your bootloader.

jfinnie:
thanks for the help.  I set up cygwin / got the latest source from SVN and built the mkamsboot utility.  Pretty easy - took around an hour to work through I guess, with thanks to the nice dev howto on the wiki.

Worked like a charm - unit now boots into OF when USB connected.  Super! :)
