Artist vs. album vs. track in WPS
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:55:02 PM »
Where does the WPS get the artist, album, and track from? Reason I ask is that I restructured my music folders, and the new structure isn't appearing on the WPS screen. Note that I haven't yet initialized the database.

In the original structure, a "Classical" folder contained a "Bach - Brandenburg Concertos" folder, which in turn contained the tracks. In cabbiev2, this displayed as:

Bach - Brandenburg Concertos
Bach - Brandenburg Concertos
Track 01

I found the redundancy annoying and redid the folder structure to "Classical" > "Bach" > "Brandenburg Concertos" > tracks, expecting this to display as:

Bach
Brandenburg Concertos
Track 01

But instead it is now showing up as:

Bach - Brandenburg Concertos
Brandenburg Concertos
Track 01

What am I missing?

Where does the WPS get the artist, album, and track from?

From the file metadata. For mp3 this are id3 tags, vorbis uses vorbiscomments. A WPS can also use the filename and parts of the path and display that instead -- or as fallback if the file does not contain tags (or the appropriate tag is missing).

The exact sources used for displaying in the WPS depends on the WPS.

Excellent. Thank you.

Just discovered the WPS tag reference, which I suspect is what I want if I want to control exactly how things are displayed...
