Changing playlist display format?
« on: May 05, 2010, 06:42:54 PM »
It is possible to change the way tracks are displayed in the playlist?
Now it's format is "number. title"
Can I change it to "artist - album - title"?

Generally it would be great to have completely different player layout - instead of wps just a playlist with all informations in one place. Something like this:

...
Artist 1
  Album 1
    Track 1
    Track 2
[   Track 3   ] NOW PLAYING
    Track 4
  Album 2
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
Artist 2
  Album 1
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
    Track 4
...

it isnt really possible because he loading the id3 info from files is very slow. in the playlist viewer it just shows the filename without the extension.

It is possible to show some of the playlist inside the WPS (have a look at the %Vp tag on CustomWPS in the wiki), but that has issues on some targets (ipov video only maybe)

best perhaps to open all the tracks on your player in something like mp3tag on your PC and rename them 'tag to filename' with a string "%artist% - %album% - %title%". think i'm suggesting the obvious there but it would be one way to almost achieve what you want

Isn't it possible to use the database here?

I have noticed this already. But this only displays the incoming tracks, and does not really allow the user to interact with the playlist. Am I right?

yes, you can't interact with the list from there

yes, you can interact with the list from there
Then I'll try this first.

What I'm trying to achieve is a player like Amarok or foobar2000:
Pure playlist displaying the whole collection sorted by artist+album+track.no+track. Allowing the user to quickly find, play and queue tracks.
Because of the limited player resolution the best way to display those would be similar to this from my first post.

If the wps %Vp does not meet my needs, I will try to modify it in the source code. I should probably start with apps/playlist_viewer.c and apps/gui/wps.c?
