The Allie Moore iHybrid 40: a DIY TI Hybrid Digital amplifier for the iPod

For those who don't know, TI's Hybrid Digital technology is a way to amplify audio with digital efficiency while retaining analog compatibility. Delta Sigma converts the analog signal into a quasi-digital bitstream that can be very efficiently amplified.

At normal listening levels, power usage is only 25mA at 12v, or just 300mW! In contrast, analog amplifiers use as much as 90W.

In addition, the iHybrid has DC power input for alternative energy compatibility, a line in that can be used at the same time as the iPod, and remote control with support for basic iPod control.

I named it after my best friend, who is an environmentalist.

I'm confused.
Is this Rockbox related?  Does the remote work with Rockbox?  Is there a legible version of the schematic anywhere?

It is Rockbox related since it is a hardware upgrade to a Rockbox device. Yes, the remote works with Rockbox. And here's the schematic: http://i39.tinypic.com/11w61xe.png (For some reason, it was resized in the post.)

Note that it powers the 12v (actually 8-30v) input on the iPod to avoid the 5v input problem described elsewhere.

Would you care to make a wiki page for this?  This sort of content is best stored in the wiki, rather than in a discussion forum.
